A reception for artists in Current Threads 2014 attracted a good crowd of interesting and interested people. Rob Bos, the new curator at the Nanaimo Art Gallery, noted the investment of time and care invested in each piece and the importance of materials and process in fibre art in his welcoming remarks. Many pieces in the show incorporate a variety of techniques to create rich layered surfaces in gorgeous colours.
Before the show attending artists spoke about our work…some interesting issues were raised such as the importance of hand writing as an individual expression and the fact that many young people cannot read cursive writing.
Three maps of mine are hung on one wall; I was very pleased to see them beautifully arranged and lit.
